Catalogue Note
Every surface of this ring is worked: the dome is divided by twisted wire into scrolling fields, each filled with granulation, and small purple cabochons are set in raised collets across the top. It is the most ornate piece of gold we have.
The XRF reading is lower than the other rings — 65.7 per cent gold, about 15.8 karat — and it also registers a trace of mercury at the surface, which we record as found. Fourteen grams; ring size 9½ (US). Priced by weight.
