Catalogue Note

Beads with a single pale “eye” were worn as protective charms from Mesopotamia to the Indus. Here the bead is set in a gold mount that wraps its upper edge, ending in scrolls at each side, with a plain ring for a cord or chain.

The gold mount reads 75 per cent by XRF — 18 karat. The bead is described by its appearance only.
