Catalogue Note
The scarab — the dung beetle that rolls the sun across the sky — was the most widely worn amulet of ancient Egypt, and it travelled across the Near East as far as Persia. This one is set in a gold frame with a beaded border and a ribbed tubular bail.
The gold mount reads 75.1 per cent by XRF, 18 karat. The scarab itself is described by its colour only.
