Catalogue Note

At twenty-seven grams this is the heaviest piece of gold in the collection, and it is built like it: a thick band rising to shoulders that swell outward, and a broad oval bezel on which an animal lies curled in relief, modelled rather than engraved.

Rings of this weight were statements of rank across the ancient Near East. This one reads 75 per cent gold by XRF — 18 karat — and is priced by weight. Ring size 10½ (US).
