Catalogue Note
The stirrup ring, its band swelling from a narrow base to a broad flat top, is the classic signet form of the Roman world and its eastern provinces. The bezel is engraved with a small device and the band is otherwise plain, polished to a soft lustre.
The XRF reading is 75.1 per cent gold with silver and copper; it also registers a trace of mercury at the surface, which we record as found. Fifteen grams; ring size 9 (US). Priced by weight.
