Catalogue Note
The mongoose that spits jewels is the emblem of Jambhala, the Buddhist god of wealth, who is shown in the Himalaya in both peaceful and wrathful forms. This is the wrathful form: the stance wide, the belly heavy, the face grimacing, the hair piled up in blue.
The lotus base is petalled all round. It is a small, dense object — 271 grams — that sits well among books or on a desk.
