Catalogue Note
Multi-armed standing gods, each hand made to hold an attribute, belong to the Hindu and Buddhist sculpture of mainland South-East Asia and India. This figure is tall and restrained: the body straight, the face calm beneath a tiered crown, the eight arms raised in a symmetrical fan, the garment falling in a narrow panel between the legs.
At 42.5 centimetres and nine kilograms it is the largest piece in the collection, and it needs a firm surface. The hands are empty; no attributes are supplied with the piece.
